Here are some suggestions for your Harry Potter Party

Harry Potter GAMES

Guess the number of Bernie Botts Every Flavor Beans:  Put some jelly beans in a jar labeled “Flavor Beans” and have each guest write down a guess as to how many beans are in the jar. The winner gets to take the jar home.

Wizard Stomp: Blow up balloons and place a new gold dollar coin in each balloon. The balloons are attached to each child’s leg with curling ribbon. The object of the game is for each child to stomp on the other kids’ balloons and pop them without allowing his/her own to be popped. Each child sits down after popping a balloon and getting a gold coin. Everyone leaves with a gold coin (“galleon”).

Find the Snitch: Hide about two dozen ping pong balls marked with points (5, 10, 15). Paint one ball gold (the Snitch); it is worth 150 points. Divide the kids into teams (Houses). The team with the most points wins. Basilisk Stare: Have the kids sit in a circle. Make some cards with the names of various characters on them. Have each child secretly choose a card. The child that chooses the Basilisk is “it.” As that child looks around the circle, he/she blinks with both eyes as he/she looks at another child. That child “turns to stone” and lays down. The other kids try to figure out who the Basilisk is.

Harry Potter FOOD: Have a number of multi-colored drinks or “potions.” Creepy chocolates in the shapes of frogs, bats, etc. (get the molds at craft or candy making stores). Get some “Pop Rocks” candy and say it is from Honeydukes Candy Shop in Hogsmeade. A cauldron (or black pot) of macaroni and cheese, beef stew, soup, etc. Prepare ice cubes using half-stength concentrated grape, strawberry, or raspberry juice. Provide a clear soft drink (7-up or ginger ale). As the ice cubes melt, the drink changes color.

Harry Potter DECORATIONS: Put a sign over the entrance to the party that says “Platform Nine and Three-Quarters” Decorate the ceiling of the “Great Hall” with glow-in-the-dark stars or stars made from aluminium foil. Put a plastic or stuffed owl with a letter tied to its leg in front of the house to let people know where the party is. Put some dry ice in a cauldron on the food table.
